Up and Coming Fashion Show- Tyler Kenny

So last Saturday's Up and Coming featured a very new and soon to be extremely successful designer. TYLER KENNY! His work is amazing and these pictures don't even begin to showcase the show to it's extremes! The line is everything a glamazon could wish for. Bring on the glitz the glam, and all the fabulous textiles to match! With a touch of everything from sexy animal print to flowing drapery you could find it in the most sophisticated manner. We were so happy to have him at the Up and Coming!

Karin Bubas- Artist of the Week (Well Second Time)

There is something of the Mona Lisa in Lauren Conrad’s signature half-smile, hovering between certain boredom and smug knowingness. We’d just never realized it until last week, when we heard that The Hills are alive again, and in portraiture? No kidding: Karin Bubaš (karinbubas.ca), a Vancouver artist known for photographic work, has created a whole series of drawings of TV’s favourite California girls—mascara running, collagen lips trembling, looks killing from across da club.

This is pop art for a post-pop-art generation. Or, if you took philosophy instead of art history, think of it as a Baudrillardian hyperreality show: the soft-focus simulacra of already-simulated lives, those long female gazes drawn out, then re-drawn out in pretty pretty colours. Meta, in pastels.

Before this, Bubaš did a watercolour series based on the trashtastic ’80s soap Dynasty. But it’s not bad acting that compels her; rather, she tells us, “there’s a raw emotional beauty that makes for interesting study.”

She was also inspired, while in Paris last fall, by Le mystère et l’éclat, a “fantastic pastel show” at Musée d’Orsay.

16 and Pregnant Broke my Heart

I was watching 16 and pregnant's 4th episode on MTV. I'd have to say that I've never been so moved and upset about the hardships that surround helpless teen mom's going through unexpected pregnancies. I never thought I would be so upset about this issue but something hit a spark when 16 year old cried when she couldn't fit into her prom dress.

This episode Ebony lives at home to take care of her new baby. She finds that she is hopelessly let with no eduction and must now forget her dreams of working in the Air Force. Her resources were so limited she was forced to depend on an irresponsible father. In sacrifice of her career and ultimatly her life she hopes to raise a beautiful baby. I feel that if young woman make the decisison to keep there children there should be more options available as far as child care and finances, I'm sure even social councilling would help. In this paticular case Ebony was issolated and abandoned by her friends and boyfriend.

With the Up and Coming event soon to come I am looking for a charitable organization we can work with to raise funds to help aid single mothers. Just a thought. Let me know if you know of any useful agencies out there for Toronto young mothers.

Artist of the Week- Charlotte Ficek

This is my friend Charlotte's art. She has some really amazing stuff and I really love it. This was during the portfolio class and the work was about contrast (I think...). My fav is the self portrait done in conte. It's amazing and for serious looks like her. For further info contact Charlotte on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/charlotte.ficek?__a=1

I LOVE the SHEWOLF

So lets summarize this video for a second. First there's normal and beautiful Shakira getting ready for a night out. She finds herself walking through this closet in search of the perfect night wear to attract all the Warewolves in town. The closet terns into Narnia and then she finds herself in another world. But this is no ordinary ultra universe. This is a cave leading to a ruby mine. There she strips down and turns into an anaconda in a cage. Wipping some crazy snake moves she turns into a SHEWOLF.

I am being completely serious when I say that this video is very creative. This isn't just a dumb song my friends! This is a revolution in popculture. This video is artistic and abstract in so many ways. Shakira I LOVE YOU as a SHEWOLF! ...very cool

Jewels Galore

When I was in Portebellow Market in England I visited this amazing jewelry store. It had every vintage piece you could possibly imagine. The displays were amazing! There was just constantly so much to look at I was getting a bit overwhelmed! There are far more pictures but I'll upload tomorrow.
