I herd this guy live and even though I'd never herd the name Calvin Harris I was instantly in LOVE! He has an amazing and fun vibe about him that lit the crowd on fire.
Forget new rave - the bandwagon's spilling over. You're going to hate yourself for buying that neon pink jacket in ten years' time, and you'll soon wonder why you blew all your money on glow sticks. Leave the hype behind and turn yourself on to Calvin Harris, a good old-fashioned electro pop pioneer. He's avoided the new rave tag, but 'Acceptable In The 80s' is more fun than a hundred Klaxons fans on E.Driven by drum machine beats, the song lets loose loud bursts of carefully ordered keyboard noise, a la Mylo, over a grinding bassline. Harris provides a falsetto vocal, with lyrics paying homage to kids of the eighties. "I've got love for you if you were born in the eighties", Harris mumbles. With a melody that just won't rest until it's unapologetically dancing round and round your head, 'Acceptable In The 80s' is a winner. If this is old rave, then we don't want to hear about the new.
